23 Dr. U.R.Ananthamurthy (82) noted writer and the “Njanapeedam” Award winner, former Chairman of UGC and Vice Chancellor of M.G.University Kerala passed way at Manipal Hospital, Bangalore on 22nd August 2014. Renowned writer UR Ananthamurthy has been admitted to the hospital this morning. Udupi Rajagopalacharya Ananthamurthy is a contemporary writer and critic in the Kannada language and is considered as one of the pioneers of the Navya movement. He is well known among Indian authors. Bhava, Samskara and A Rite for a Dead Man are some of his popular publications. Ananthamurthy was an alumni of: University of Birmingham.
The report of the U. R. Ananthamurthy committee on a new State policy on higher education on revamping the Acts of universities in Kerala got caught in the crossfire of perceptions. Ananthamurthy committee emphasised the need to bring about public control over private, aided, institutions. The managements of such institutions are averse to this idea. The committee specifically recommends that such control must be sought to be effected in matters of appointment of teachers and admission of students.
