Centre for Livestock Development & Policy Research, Thiruvanathapuram
The Centre for Livestock Development and Policy Research (CLPR) had been set up as autonomous centre of the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) at Thiruvananthapuram in June 2013 based on the decisions of Board of Management held on 26.11.2012. The long term goal of CLPR is to develop it as an international “Centre of Excellence” in theory informed empirical research capacity creation and knowledge dissemination on the socio-economic dimensions of livestock development. The Centre will be developed as a multi-disciplinary institute for knowledge production and would work in close collaboration with other scientific, technological and extension departments of the University. It is envisaged that the research and capacity creation activities undertaken by CLPR would take in to account not only the sector specific problems, but also its close linkage with the rest of the economy. While, the research undertaken will give more attention in addressing the problems faced by the State of Kerala, it would also give considerable attention to study the problems of development in other regions of the Country and also comparative studies of India with other developing Countries in Asia. The objectives of the Centre are briefly outlined as follows:
- To conduct socio-economic and policy oriented research on the livestock sector and in particular and the food and agricultural sector in general.
- To development a data, information and documentation Centre on livestock sector.
- To conduct evaluation studies on the planning and implementation of various livestock development schemes and suggest mid-course corrections and policy advice to various planning and implementation agencies.
- To disseminate the knowledge from various studies to policy making bodies and other related organizations including media and the general public. This will be done in the form of publication of scientific papers, books, monographs, policy briefs and through visual media.
- To network with National, International and other Institutions with similar objectives for promotion of research capacity building and other related activities.
- To develop, capacity building programmes for the livestock sector in particular and rural development in general. The courses envisaged includes Masters, MPhil, PhD and Diploma and short term training programmes. The potential target groups to be included consists of eligible students from Colleges/ Universities, and professionals working in this sector.
- To institute, fellowships, awards etc. to promote the objectives of the Centre.
- To organize seminars, workshops, conferences etc.
