26The 2009 Admission B.Tech students of College of Dairy Science and Technology, Mannuthy launched the much ‘Experiential Learning Project’ stipulated by ICAR for B.Tech programme in Dairy Technology. Dept. of Dairy Technology, under the leadership of Dr. S.N. Rajakumar prepared a detailed roadmap for the conduct of this project. 23 students in Semester VII are involved in this project . For the conduct of the same, the whole batch was divided into 5 groups (Groups A, B, C, D & E) with 4-5 members each. Each group has taken up an entrepreneurial venture on dairy products’ preparation. Each group is assisted by a Faculty Guide from the core functional area (Dairy Technology/Dairy Microbiology/Dairy Chemistry) and overall assistance on Project preparation, economic analysis, sales and marketing is extended by the Faculty members of Dairy Business Management. Dr. S.N. Rajakumar, Head - Dept. of Dairy Technology is the Course director. The student groups presented a Business Plan on their respective project, before an Expert Committee. The Business plans upon getting vetted by the Evaluation Committee were recommended for the sanction of ‘Seed money’. They initiated their production operations under the tutelage of University Dairy Plant from 22.02.2013 onwards. They also have identified suitable markets for their produce, after complying with the necessary packaging and labeling formalities.
To facilitate the sales function of their products students have opened a Sales Counter near to the Veterinary Hospital Complex; Mannuthy. The counter was inaugurated on 25th February 2013 by Dr. C.B. Manomohan, Professor and NSS Officer, KVASU. The first product sale was made by Dr. C.B. Manomohan and it was received by Dr. Usha Narayanapillai, Assoc. Professor, Veterinary Clinics. The inaugural ceremony commenced with a prayer by College choir and a welcome speech by Sri. G.R. Jayadevan, Academic Consultant (Dairy Business Management). Dr. S.N. Rajakumar, Course Director delivered an introductory note on the project. Dr. P.I. Geevarghese, Professor and Head-Dept. of Dairy Chemistry and Dean i/c, CDST presided over the function. Dr. P.C. Alex, Head-Dept. of Clinical Medicine, COVAS Mannuthy, Smt. Lucy Russell Vice-President CDST PTA, Dr. C.T. Sathian Head-KVASU Dairy Plant, Dr. P. Sudheer Babu, Dr. A. K. Beena and Sri. Muhammed Haris M. offered felicitations. Sri Adarsh C., Representative 2009 batch expressed vote of thanks.
