13In the present scenario of increased prevalence of Zoonotic diseases, creating awareness on zoonoses to the public is very important. The Department of Veterinary Public Health, CVAS Mannuthy, in association with School of Zoonoses, Public Health & Pathobiology and NSS Units, CVAS Mannuthy celebrated World Zoonoses Day on 12th of July, 2017 which was postponed from Jul 6th due to unavoidable reasons. The one day programme included an exhibition highlighting the various zoonotic diseases and the preventive measures that needs to be taken, to the teaching and nonteaching staff, labourers and students of the college as well as for the neighboring school students and a seminar for the staff and students.
The programme started with the inauguration of the Exhibition on ‘Know zoonoses to no Zoonoses’ programme at Golden Jubilee auditorium by Dr. N. N. Gokuldas, Retd. Professor, Sri Krishna College, Guruvayur. It was followed by an inaugural programme of Seminar at Veterinary College Auditorium at 10AM. Dr Vrinda Menon, Asst Professor, Dept of VPH welcomed the gathering. Dr C Latha, Prof. and Head, VPH and NSS programme officer gave an overview of the programme. Dr Sisilamma George, Dean, CVAS Mannuthy and Dr K Anilkumar delivered the felicitation address. Ms Reshma, NSS Volunteer, delivered the vote of thanks. “A talk on cancer by a cancer survivor” was delivered by Dr. N. N. Gokuldas which was an eye opener to the dreadful disease cancer. The exhibition was visited by staff and students of CVAS Mannuthy and high School students of VVHS, Mannuthy and St. Vincient Pallotti Central School, Kalathode, Thrissur.
