21On the auspicious day of Chingam 1st (M.E.1191) – 17th August 2015, CDST Mannuthy celebrated ‘Farmer’s Day’ in a modest yet memorable manner. A team of faculty members comprising of Mr. G.R. Jayadevan, Mrs. Indu B., Mr. Aswin S Warrier, Mr. Sandeep B. and Ms. Neethu Lazar along with fifty B.Tech (DSc. &Tech.) students visited the Pudukkad Primary Milk Co-operative Society, Chengaloor wherein a ‘Dairy Farmer-Scientist-Student interface’ was arranged by the Dept. of Dairy Development, Kodakara in association with the Dept. of Dairy Extension of CDST Mannuthy. Sri. Shyam Suraj S.R, Asst. Professor - CDST was the Convenor of the programme. The programme commenced at 10:00 a.m. with a small public function. Officials from the Dairy Development department, Animal Husbandry department, Pudukkad Primary Milk Co-operative Society and the Local Self Government bodies attended the programme. Sri. Gibi Thomas, the President - Pudukkad Milk Society presided over the function and Smt. Sneha Biju, the Ward member of Pudukkad Panchayath inaugurated the programme. She distributed prizes to best farmer members (male and female) of the milk society. It was followed with a group discussion between B.Tech students and farmer participants. The students and farmers were divided into five groups and with the help of a structured questionnaire, students collected data from farmers. Upon consolidation, a student representative presented their findings. There was a Farmer-Scientist interaction led by the Professor and Head-Dept. of Dairy Husbandry, Dr. C.T. Sathian. Dr. Sindhu, Veterinary Surgeon of Pudukkad Panchayath also attended the interface programme and offered her valuable advices to farmers. The programme came to a close by 2:00 p.m. with a lunch and thereafter the students visited a commercial dairy farm situated near Pudukkad.
