17Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University's Poultry Entrepreneurship training programme for Entrepreneurs of Lakshadweep will start from 18th January 2016. Department of Animal husbandry of Lakshadweep District Panchayat, Kavaratti and Directorate of Entrepreneurship and Centre for advanced Studies in Poultry Sciences of KVASU will implement the Entrepreneurship development programme with the initial allocation of Rupees three lakhs. Initially 50 Entrepreneurs(25 per batch) will be given five days training in two batches. Second batch training programme will be held during February. The training will cover various aspects of Poultry entrepreneurship including poultry production, feeding, management, disease control, marketing, broiler management, waste management and back yard rearing and value addition along with entrepreneurship, banking and finance. The training will equip the prospective entrepreneurs to start their own poultry venture. Broiler and layer farming will be given importance during the training programme. Directorate of Entrepreneurship of KVASU in association with centre for advanced studies in Poultry science will organize the training at Mannuthy campus. Trainees will get the opportunities to visit sustainable models of poultry entrepreneurship in the State: This joint training programme will facilitate entrepreneurs of Lakshadweep to venture in to poultry farming in the Island so as to improve broiler meat and egg production. As far as Lakshadweep is concerned there is a huge gap between availability and requirement of poultry products. Dr.Deepa Ananth, Directorate of Entrepreneurship, KVASU is the Co-ordinator of the programme.
