National seminar on Newer approaches in cow comfort systems for better productivity.

Under the combined auspicious of the Indian Dairy Association, Kerala State Chapter and Indian Veterinary Association, Veterinary College MannuthyUnit jointly organized a one day National seminar onNewer approaches in cow comfort systems for better productivity on 25-06-2016 at Thrissur. Nearly 160 delegates comprising of farmers, faculty, PG students, industry people, practicing veterinarians, dairy professionals from various states attend the seminar. The seminar was formally inaugurated by Dr. VELUGOTI PADMANABHA REDDY, Dean, Faculty of Dairy Science, Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, Tirupati. Dr. P.I. Geevarghese, Chairman IDA Kerala State Chapter presided over the function. Dr Yancy Mary Issac welcomed the gathering. Dr. R. Rajendra Kumar, Fellow, Indian Dairy Association and Smt. Lilly Mathew, the best dairy women dairy entrepreneur from south zone were honored in the function. Dr. SisilammaGeorge, Dean Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences released the Book Climate change and Livestock production-Mitigation and adaptationauthored by Dr. Veerasamy Sejian, Senior Scientist, Animal Physiology division, NIANP, Bangalore.

Dr. G. Girish Varma, Dean, Faculty of Dairy Science, Dr. P.C. Alex, President, Indian Veterinary Association Veterinary College Mannuthy Unit and Sri. Rajan Joseph, Deputy Director, Dairy Development Department, Thrissur offered felicitations. Dr. S. Ravikumar, Professor and Head, Dairy Engineering Division, Faculty of Dairy Science, Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University, Tirupati presented mementos to the dignitaries. Dr. Lijimol James proposed vote of thanks.

The inaugural function was followed by the scientific sessions. Dr. Veerasamy Sejian presented the topic “Climate change and livestock Production: concept of multiple stresses and its amelioration”. Dr. A Prasad, Head, CBF, Thumburmuzhi presented the topic “Thermal indices to quantify heat stress impact and housing management strategies for livestock in hot humid tropics”. Mr. Geo Sebastian, Director of Glenrock Rubber Products made a presentation of cow mats and other rubber products that can be used in cattle barns. After the presentations delegates were given time to interact with the speakers. The valedictory function was presided over by Dr. P. C. Alex, President, IVA, CVAS, Mannuthy Unit and certificates were distributed to the delegates.
