06 Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University will implement it’s Start-up village project in Peerumade Taluk of Idukki district. Directorate of Entrepreneurship of the University in association with agriculture, Animal Husbandry, dairy development and fisheries departments will implement the programme. Nine Grama Panchayats of Peerumade assembly constituency will be identified for the purpose. Initially three start up village sales counters will be launched during third week of August 2017 at Peruvanthanam, Vandiperiyar and Wagamon.
Start up village project envisages in producing and marketing safe to eats agri, livestock and allied products through good agricultural practices. Chemical, antibiotic and pesticide residues will be periodically monitored at the residue testing NABL accredited laboratories of KVASU. The project helps producers, entrepreneurs and consumers. Producers and entrepreneurs to get better price and consumers may benefit through access to safe to eat products. Each sales centre will have 50 entrepreneurs to produce milk, meat, egg, vegetables, rice and their products. These products will be branded as Peerumade products jointly by KVASU and Agriculture department.
Minister for Agriculture and Farmers welfare Adv. V.S.Sunilkumar will inaugurate the project during the third week of August 2017. While addressing the core implementation committee meeting held at Peerumade Taluk on 5th August 2017 Smt.E.S.Bijimol MLA suggested that startup village project will facilitate sustainable measures for health, agriculture, tourism, livelihood and entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship clusters attached to each sales counter will be in turn linked with Women Self help Groups and explore the possibility of implementing good agricultural practices and market driven strategies across the region. KVASU successfully implemented start up project at Pullazhi in Thrissur and is in the process of implementing the project at Cherpu. A sales counter of Cherpu Startup will be established at Thrissur Civil Station Campus shortly. A one day workshop on implementation process of Start up village project will be held at KVASU Mannuthy campus on 11th August 2017 in which Grama Panchayat Presidents and Officials from Peerumade Taluk eill participate.
