11Seminar on “Hoof Health Management in Dairy Cattle” as part of Science Popularisation programme was organized on 5.8.2017 at Pottassery APCOS, Palakkad by Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy. The programme was supported and co- sponsored by the Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment, Thiruvananthapuram for promoting hoof care in dairy cattle. Thirty two dairy farmers from Kanjirapuzha panchayath were participated in the seminar. The inaugural session was held in a function presided by Sri. Baby Cherukara, President, Pottassery APCOS, Dr. C.B. Devanand, Professor and Head, Dept of. Surgery and Radiology, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy delivered the keynote address. Dr. Laiju M Philip, Assistant Professor, Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology and Programme Co-ordinator welcomed the guests and participants of the seminar, Dr. V. S. Deepa, Veterinary Surgeon, Veterinary Dispensary, Kanjirapuzha felicitated the function and Sri. Joseph, Secretary, Pottassery APCOS expressed the vote of thanks. the Inaugural function was followed by classes on various topics on hoof care, diseases, treatment, management, economic aspects of the conditions. The classes were handled by Dr. C.B. Devanand, Professor and Head, Dept of. Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Dr. Shaji Panikkassery Senior Veterinary Surgeon, Veterinary Polyclinic, Mannarkkad and Dr. Laiju M Philip, Assistant. Professor, Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology. In the feedback session, farmers have shown interest in the necessity to ensure the hoof health of their animals since they could realize the importance of keeping hoof in good condition to improve production. They had enquired about the possibility extending the facility to their animals which are in need of hoof trimming.
