First Academic council meeting of the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Pookot, Waynad was held at Thycaud Guest house Thiruvananthapuram on 19th April 2011. Vice Chancellor Dr.B.Ashok IAS presided over the meeting. Director of Research, Registrar, Director of Entrepreneurship, Deans from constituent colleges, Directors of Dairy and Animal Husbandry Departments were the few among 20 members who participated in the council meeting.
Academic council decided to start Post graduate programmes at College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pookot in five disciplines from next academic year. Different disciplines identified were Veterinary Pathology, Clinical Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Public Health, Animal Husbandry Extension and Veterinary Surgery. Moreover from 2011-2012, University decided to start three each Master of Science and Diploma programmes and three Certificate courses in the emerging sectors. Academic council approved the byelaw for the Degree, Post graduate, Doctoral, new MS programmes, diploma and certificate courses. It has been decided to assure Assistantship, Scholarship, educational facilities and overseas education facilities for deserving candidates. Research projects of the university will be undertaken with the co-operation of faculty members from Mannuthy and Pookot Campuses.
