23College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pookot, Wayanad of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University commemorates World Veterinary Day on 30th April 2011 with “RABIES” as the focal theme. Indian Veterinary Association and Department of Veterinary Epidemiology & Preventive Medicine jointly organize World Veterinary Day celebrations in association with Department of Health Services, Government of Kerala and Indian Immunologicals, Hyderabad. Programme is aimed at creating awareness among public, especially school children regarding the importance of ‘Rabies control’ and role of Veterinarians in ensuring public health and control of zoonotic diseases. Moreover in the 250th year of Veterinary education, control of zoonotic diseases needs more emphasis.
As part of the one day programme painting competition, inauguration of the prophylactic anti rabies vaccine for students and Veterinarians of Wayanad district, Antibody assessment of immunized Veterinarians and a Workshop on Latest concepts on control and eradication of Rabies will be held along with prophylactic anti rabies vaccination for pet animals at Pookot campus. On behalf of the organizing committee, the Dean and Secretary IVA Pookot chapter solicit the esteemed presence of all teachers, Veterinarians, students, farmers and well wishers to this function.
