09World Zoonoses Day was celebrated at university campus, Pookode on 6th July, 2012. The function was jointly organized by Dept. of Veterinary Public Health, COVAS, Pookode, Dept. of Preventive Medicine and IVA, Pookode. The program was inaugurated by Dr. C. B. Manomohan, Registrar, KVASU. He spoke about the significance of zoonoses in Wayanad district considering prevailing climatic conditions and the large population of domestic and wild animals. He suggested a collaborative effort from several departments like AHD, Health services deoartment and LSGD along with university will help to provide remedy to the emerging problems in zoonotic diseases. The function was presided over by Dean, COVAS, Pookode- Dr. Leo Joseph and key note address was delivered by Director A & R, Dr. A. Jalaudeen. Felicitations were given by Dr. V. A. Jose, DAHO, Wayanad and Dr. K. Ajayan, Dy. DMO, Wayanad. The organizing committee honoured Dr. Reghu Ravindran for best teacher award and Akhila T R (2011 batch) for receiving malayala monorama merit scholarship. The book on Janthu Janya Rogangal authored by C. Latha, R. Praseeda and E. Nanu was released by Dean, COVAS, Pookode.
The technical session of the seminar were attended by Health Inspectors, nursing and veterinary students. Sessions were handled by Dr. Ajayan K, Dy. DMO, Dr. C. Latha, Associate Professor, Dr. Ajay Kumar, Asst. Prof and Dr. Reghu Ravindran, Asst. Prof. Prophylactic anti-rabies vaccination was given for pet animals, final year students and teachers. Serum was collected from field veterinarians and college teachers for assessing Rabies post vaccination antibody titre. Painting competition for high school students and quiz competition for higher secondary students were also simultaneously held. Poster competition was also conducted for veterinary college students. Dean, COVAS, Pookode distributed the certificates and prizes. Dr. P. Girish Kumar, Secretary IVA welcomed the gathering and Dr. Prejit, Asst. Prof. delivered the vote of thanks.
