Dr. V. Sathianesan, Former Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary Parasitology, CVAS, Mannuthy left for his heavenly abode on 02.12.12. He was 75. Dr. Sathianesan received his veterinary education from Mannuthy, Thrissur including his Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Veterinary Parasitology. Initially he served the Department of Animal Husbandry, Kerala as Extension officer and Veterinary Surgeon for 6 years. He joined the Veterinary College as Lecturer and then he served the Kerala Agricultural University as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor till his retirement in January 1997 as the Head of the Department.
Dr. Sathianesan was an authority in Helminthology, especially gastro intestinal nematodes in ruminants. He has produced over 30 publications and guided around 10 students as major/minor advisor. He was always keen in the activities of the Indian Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology (IAAVP) and had been the member of its Executive committee.
Dr. Sathianesan is well known for his straightforwardness, simple manners and placid nature. Following his retirement he decided to settle down at his native place -Thiruvananthapuram, with his family. He is survived by his wife, Smt. Saralamani and two daughters, Anila and Anupa.May his soul rest in peace.
