Prof. S. Ramkumar has joined as the Director of Entrepreneurship of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. He is a BVSc & AH and MVSc alumni of the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Thrissur, Kerala. Dr.Ramkumar worked as Assistant Professor, KAU from 1986 to 1991. He was the recipient of the Nehru Centenary British Fellowship Award of the Govt. of India to pursue PhD in the University of Reading, United Kingdom (UK) and received post doctoral bursary from the University of Reading. On return from UK, after a brief tenure in Kerala Agricultural University joined the Rajiv Gandhi College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Puducherry and has been working there for the last 15 years.
Professor Ramkumar has more than 45 research publications including contribution to books. (Livestock and Wealth Creation edited by E.Owen et.al (Nottingham University Press) and Livestock Production and Management by Sastry NSR and Thomas, C.K).
In the last decade four research projects have been successfully completed under the leadership of Dr. S. Ramkumar; working as Research collaborator for two other research projects. The Projects have been supported by the DFID Animal Health Programme, British Council, Swiss Development Agency and the ILRI.
He was academic visitor to the School of Agriculture Policy and Development, University of Reading, UK from 2000 to 2007, under the various projects and was instrumental in designing and publishing different innovative, user friendly extension media including the farmer-usable Information kiosks, Trained Resource person on teaching methodologies and undertook various training programmes for Veterinary Faculty and practicing Veterinarians in Kerala, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu. Coordinator for various International and National workshops.Awarded the National Manthan Award in 2005 for the best e-contents for the e- inclusion category for e contents designed on cattle health knowledge.
