19 A meeting of the University officials in the presence of the Vice Chancellor, KVASU, was held with the student’s representatives at the camp Office, Mannuthy on 18.08.2011. The University officials clarified that since the new fee structure had been effected with the allotment of seats by the Entrance Commissioner, there could be no immediate effective roll back in the fee structure. In lieu of reducing the fee, the University offered a quantum hike in the allowances to the student community. These included an increase of internship allowance to Rs. 5000/- per mensem per student for the present final year students, with an annual increase of Rs. 1000/- so that the students admitted under the new fee structure would be receiving an internship allowance of Rs. 10,000/- per mensem per student. In addition, it was also offered to increase the tour allowance to Rs. 8,000/- per student (subject to actuals) from the consolidated Rs. 4,000/- in vogue. Altogether this would effectively result in a net fee of only Rs. 8000/- per student per annum.
The student representatives did not agree to this proposal and they put forward a demand of Rs. 7,500/- as internship allowance from the present final year batch onwards, with the hiked fees of Rs. 20,000/-. The university officials elaborated that this was not agreeable as it was impossible to address the additional financial burden immediately. The meeting was finally adjourned without either parties reaching an agreement.
