26KVASU has been assigned the task of creating awareness among public on the avian influenza at Alleppy, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta districts of the State. A decision in this regard was taken during the high level meeting convened by Chief Minister, Ministers of Agriculture, Health, Revenue and forests at Chief Minister’s Conference Hall at Secretariat, Trivandrum on 25th November 2014. Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University will conduct awareness programmes in the affected districts with the help of Department of animal Husbandry, health and local bodies. A three tier awareness programme will be implemented for local body representatives, Staff of Animal Husbandry department, farmers and public. Professor and Head Department of Public Health Dr.B.Sunil and Dr.Shibu Jacob of CLPRI attended the meeting among the various stakeholders. 50000 brochures were made available for the awareness programme at Alleppy. Director, Centre for advanced Studies in Poultry Production Dr.Leo joseph and Dr.Ajith Babu are co-ordinating the containment programme from Alleppy. Registrar Dr.Joseph Mathew, Director of Entrepreneurship Dr.T.P.Sethumadhavan and Director (Academics& Research) Dr.K.Devada will monitor the state wide campaign. University will soon release a documentary on Avian influenza in Malayalam for the media and public to create awareness among the masses.
