01Considering the importance of the H5N1 in ducks in Kerala and it's economic impact among farmers, it is proposed to start a National Centre for Duck Research in the State. Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University will establish a National Centre for Duck Research at Alapuzha. This Announcement was made jointly by Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Government of Kerala Sri.K.P.Mohanan and Sri. K.C.Venugopal MP during the launching ceremony of KVASU’s documentary on Bird flu produced by Directorate of Entrepreneurship and Centre for One Health of KVASU on 30th November 2014 at Alapuzha. The Centre will be established with the support from Government of India and Government of Kerala. As part of disaster management, KVASU’s officers, faculty and students are actively involved in awareness programmes in the affected districts of Alapuzha, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta districts in association with Animal Husbandry department. University provided sufficient numbers of publications and leaflets on Bird flu in the affected districts. Documentary film will be available as App, Whatsapp, U tube, Web sites, etc in appropriate user friendly formats. As part of creating awareness 140 MLAs of the State were given the copy of the Documentary on 1st December 2014 under the leadership of Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture and Pro Chancellor of the University Sri. K.P.Mohanan, Director of Entrepreneurship Dr.T.P.Sethumadhavan and Director of Animal Husbandry Department Dr.Brahmanandan.
