03The Huck Institutes of Life Sciences at Pennsylvania State University, together with major global academic partner institutions have received funding from major funding bodies (eg. the Gates Foundation, WHO, NIH etc.) to jointly develop programs in the areas of One Health and Infectious diseases. COHEART on 2nd March 2015 provided a platform for faculty members of CVAS, Pookode to interact with Dr. Vivek Kapur and Dr. Walter R. McVey to develop collaborative areas of potential research. Dr. Vivek Kapur is Professor of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases and Associate Director for Strategic Initiatives at the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences. Dr. Walter R. McVey is the Program Director of the Academic Engagement Partnership with DTRA at the Department of Veterinary Science. The discussion was chaired by Dean, Prof. (Dr.) K. Vijayakumar. Few of the thrust areas identified were Brucella control, animal modeling of infectious diseases and Livelihood enhancement of the small holder farmers and tribal populations of Kerala. The Scientists further discussed with Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. B. Ashok and Director of Entrepreneurship, Dr. T. P. Sethumadhavan on developing a collaboration for a meaningful MoU of mutual interest, project formulation plans and hoisting series of workshop and One Health conferences.
