Extension Education

Kerala Veterinary & Animal Sciences University connects teaching, research and service to issues that are important to the nation as well as the world. KVASU extension brings research findings of the university to the doorstep of the farmer. University focuses on critical economic, environmental, leadership, youth and family issues among the farming community of the state, besides teaching with cutting edge strategies using new technologies and applications.

Our mission is to engage people in the animal husbandry sector to strengthen their lives and communities through research based education programming besides applying knowledge and practical research to their diverse needs and interests. KVASU extension is a dynamic educational entity that partners with individual farmers as well as farm families, farming communities and the industry of the state to strengthen their lives through life long learning and sustainable animal husbandry activities. 

Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University in association with NABARD organised a workshop on Animal Husbandry Sector at NABARD Conference Hall, Thiruvananthapuram on 22nd July, 2011 to finalize the Extension Action Policy of the University . Dr. B.Ashok IAS Vice Chancellor of KVASU delivered the keynote address. 35 delegates including Senior officials from KVASU, NABARD, SLBC, Canara Bank, Federal Bank, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy development department, Milma, Kudumbasree mission, media and progressive farmers participated in the programme . Dr.S.Ramkumar, Director of Entrepreneurship presented a paper on the need of the Extension Policy in different domains like Extension, Media & Publications, Training and Institutional Linkages.


In the changing scenario of market fluctuations and increasing incidences of farmer’s suicides in the state, Directorate of Entrepreneurship of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University organized a one day farmer scientist interaction at CVAS, Pookode on 20th December 2011. 50 livestock farmers from Wayanad district attended and interacted with scientists from different disciplines at the function. Familiarizing the farmer friendly technologies developed by the university having field level application and formulate an action plan to improve the sustainability in farming systems and to augment the livelihoods of livestock based farmers were the major objectives


A workshop to analyse the training needs of members of Women Self Help Groups was organised by Directorate of Entrepreneurship at Entrepreneurship and Peripheral Clinical Centre of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University at Mennangadi on 21st December 2011 . Women members belonging to Kudumbasree from Wayanad District participated in the above exercise. The interacting scientists could build innovative approaches through appropriate linkages for building sustainable partnership to benefit the livelihoods of the participating members. Innovative fodder production, institutional linkages, livelihood security and scientific management practices were discussed during the workshop.

• Status paper on farmer issues based on farmer-scientist interaction held at Cvas, Pookode
• Status paper on the need based training analysis for women SHGs in wayanad
