12As a prelude to meat quality assurance in the state, an ambitious capacity building programme was undertaken by COHEART (Centre for One Health Education, Advocacy, Research and Training), Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. About 44 Food safety officers and Designated officers from Commissionerate of Food Safety, Kerala participated in the training programme conducted on 5-7th May 2014 on “Quality Assurance of Foods of Animal Origin with Special Reference to Hygienic Meat Production”. Honourable Vice Chancellor, Dr. B. Ashok during his valedictory address said that such training will be useful to the officers as they will be able to pass on the Information to meat handlers and people working in meat shops and to help them recognize the food safety risks. The three day training was intended to enlighten the participants on the current issues regarding the safety of foods of animal origin. Sessions were handled by Professors, Scientists and Doctors from reputed institutions. Director of Entrepreneurship, Dr. S. Ramkumar delivered the Presidential address. Dr. B. Sunil, Head, Dept. of VPH welcomed the participants and Dr. Prejit, Officer-in--Charge of COHEART delivered vote of thanks. The next batch of training is scheduled to be from 12-14th May 2014.
