28Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University is involved in creating awareness on Avian influenza in the affected districts of Alappuzha, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta Districts. Department of Veterinary Public health, Centre for One health, Department of Poultry Science and Preventive medicine are involved in creating awareness among the Veterinarians, Para Veterinarians, Local body representatives, farmers and public in association with Directorate of Entrepreneurship. Director of Entrepreneurship Dr.T.P.Sethumadhavan, Director of CASPS Dr.Leo Joseph, Dr.Ajith Babu (CASPS) and Professor & Head, Department of Veterinary Public Health Dr.B.Sunil are working in close association with officials of Animal Husbandry Department. On 27th November 2014 Officials of KVASU discussed with National Quarantine officer Dr.Biswas of WHO, Scientists from National Institute of Communicable Diseases, Senior officials of Animal Husbandry Department, field level officers and participated in the discussion with Sri. Padmakumar, District Collector, Alappuzha District. University had made available sufficient brochures for the awareness programmes. A team of students and faculty members were selected to assist the awareness programme under the leadership of Dean, CVAS, Mannuthy Dr.Sisilamma George, Director (Academics& Research) Dr.K.Devada, Professor, Department of Pathology Dr.C.B.Manomohan and Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary Public Health, CVAS, Mannuthy Dr. C.Latha. University prepared a 15 minutes documentary on Bird flu for the public and media persons. It has been decided to send 50 batches of RRTs for culling operations from 28th November 2014.
