29 Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University as part of creating awareness on Avian influenza in the affected districts of the State will release a documentary on Bird flu in association with Animal Husbandry department for the media, farmers, local body representatives and public. The documentary titled ‘Pakshipani Beethi venda’ will be produced both in Malayalam and English. Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Sri.K.P.Mohanan will release the documentary on 30th November 2014 at Collectorate Conference Hall, Alappuzha. Sri. K.C.Venugopal MP and Sri.Thomas Issac MLA will be the Chief guest during the function. District Collector Sri. Padmakumar IAS,Vice Chancellor KVASU Dr.B.Ashok IAS, Director of Department of Animal Husbandry Dr.Brahmanandan, Director of Entrepreneurship Dr.T.P.Sethumadhavan, Professor & Head, Dept of Veterinary Public Health, Pookode Dr.B.Sunil and Dr.B.Ajithbabu and Senior officials from Department of Animal Husbandry will participate in the function. KVASU scientists and students are involved awareness programmes. More than 60 awareness seminars were held till this date. Dean, CVAS, Mannuthy Dr.Sisilamma George, Director (Academics& Research) Dr.K.Devada, Dr.K.Vinodkumar and Dr.Vrindamenon(KVASU Mannuthy campus) along with 12 students of KVASU visited affected areas and participated in the awareness programmes. Nearly one lakh birds were culled as on 29th November 2014. Meeting convened by the Hon’be Chief Minister by Home minister and Health Minister took the following decisions. Decided to supply Tami Flu tablets to the culling teams and public who are actively involved in culling. Surveillance teams will be formed to monitor the dead birds in water bodies and dead birds lying unnoticed in the fields, strict ban on transport of birds from affected Panchayaths will be made, Control rooms will be opened in all districts, suspected samples from other districts like Kollam, Ernakulam and Trivandrum should be sent for diagnosis. Compensation for the culled birds were started distributing from 28th November 2014 onwards.
