02A two-day training programme titled Skill Development in Poultry Waste Management for Kudumbasree Members was organised on 15th and 16th January 2026 at the Academic Staff College, Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU), Mannuthy, under the Directorate of Entrepreneurship. The programme was conducted with the objective of enhancing scientific knowledge, practical skills and awareness on sustainable waste management, resource recovery and value addition. A total of 30 farmer participants attended the programme, representing various Kudumbasree units, with a focus on promoting environmentally safe practices and income-generating opportunities.
The inaugural session commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Deepak Mathew D. K., Course Coordinator, followed by an overview of the training programme by Dr. V. N. Vasudevan, Course Director and Director, Academic Staff College, KVASU. The inaugural address was delivered by Dr. Shynu M., Associate Dean, CVAS, Mannuthy, who highlighted the relevance of scientific waste management in sustainable farming. Felicitations were offered by Ms. Sarika C. S., Kudumbasree District Programme Manager.
The technical sessions conducted over the two days covered important topics including characteristics, collection and handling of poultry waste, vermicomposting and aerobic composting methods, biogas production from poultry waste, Black Soldier Fly larval technology for manure management, enrichment and quality control of value-added organic inputs, and marketing of organic products. The programme also included extensive hands-on practical demonstrations at the Eco-farm, enabling participants to gain first-hand experience in compost preparation, vermicomposting, biogas production and value-added manure preparation.
The valedictory programme was held on the second day, during which the training report was presented by the Course Coordinator Dr. Deepak Mathew D. K., the valedictory address was delivered by the Course Director Dr. V. N. Vasudevan, and certificates were distributed to all participants who successfully completed the training. Overall, the programme was well received and successfully contributed to capacity building, promotion of sustainable waste management practices and strengthening of livelihood opportunities among Kudumbasree members.
