Profile

The department undertakes studies on milk shed area development, improved dairy husbandry practices and scientific dairy production through an effective extension network with Government Departments, Dairy Development Agencies and NGOs. The department offers animal science courses for the B.Tech programme in Dairy Science & Technology. It also undertakes consultancy services as well as R& D support towards quality related issues in the areas of farm management, fodder development, cattle nutrition and milk route management.

Mandate

• Conduct dairy husbandry courses in the B.Tech (Dairy Science & Technology) curriculum
• Organize training programmes for small entrepreneurs, and general public on scientific dairy farming practices, fodder cultivation, animal nutrition etc.
• Provide R&D support to the cattle feed industry for new cattle feed formulations.
• Provide research support to the Dairy development department and similar agencies
• Conduct research on improved fodder varieties and its suitability in the state
