Department Profile
The Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics of College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences was upgraded and given the status of Centre for Advanced Studies in Animal Genetics and Breeding (CASAGB) in 1986 as recognition for its contribution in various fields of activities.
Objectives:
- To conduct research with a view to evolve appropriate breeding policy for improving the genetic potential of livestock for efficient growth and increased production and reproduction
- To undertake research in immunogenetics, cytogenetics and molecular genetics in order to support the livestock breeding programme
- To act as gene bank and germplasm resource for domestic animals
