The erstwhile Department of Pathology & Bacteriology of Kerala Veterinary College was bifurcated in 1959 and Bacteriology Department was formed. This Department was renamed as Department of Microbiology in 1977 and later as Veterinary Microbiology. The department offers Under Graduate, Masters and Doctoral programmes in Bacteriology, Mycology, Virology & Immunology. M.V.Sc course was started in 1972 & Ph.D in 1982.
