Department Profile

The department of Animal Reproduction, Gynaecology and Obstetrics was formed in the year 1961. Prior to that the subject was taught to the graduate students by the staff manning the ICAR sponsored Cattle Sterility Scheme. The department in the erstwhile Kerala Veterinary College and Research Institute started offering post graduate course from 1967. Doctorate programme in the subject of Animal Reproduction was started in 1984. The department offers Under Graduate Courses, Post Graduate Courses and Doctorate Courses in Animal Reproduction, Gynaecology and Obstetrics.

The department has the following facilities/labs:

  • Andrology lab
  • Artificial Insemination Centre
  • Bull/buck station for andrology and AI research
  • Embryo transfer lab
  • Frozen semen lab
  • Museum
  • Obstetrics and Gynaecology unit at the Veterinary Hospitals at Mannuthy and Kokkalai
  • PG lab
  • Phantom hall
  • Seminar hall
  • Computer facility – One computer
  • Reference Unit containing thesis, reference books and journals
