Department of` Nutrition started functioning from the year 1966 as a Regional Nutrition laboratory under Kerala Veterinary College and Research Institute. The aim was “To advance and apply nutritional sciences for the welfare of human race". A Small Animal Breeding Station was started as an integral part of` nutrition laboratory from the year l966 with the objective of meeting the increased demand for good quality laboratory animals for biomedical research. A feed processing and technology unit is also functioning with the objective of undertaking investigations on feed processing and preservation techniques. A feed analytical laboratory functions as a center for regular and routine analysis of` various feeds and fodders received from the farmers and governmental agencies all over the State. Major activities are confined to under graduate, post graduate teaching, research, extension and imparting technical assistance to farmers and feed manufacturers on formulating balanced and economic rations. The department offers Under Graduate, Masters and Doctoral programmes in Animal Nutrition.
